Parent/Mentor Program

Welcome to the Parent/Mentor Program at Onion Lake Family Services (OLFS). Our mission is to empower families by providing mentorship and practical assistance to parents, helping them create nurturing and supportive home environments. This program aims to develop positive parenting skills, encourage healthy family dynamics, and ensure the well-being of children and their families.

Goals of the Program:

  • Assist in the development of parenting skills by teaching and modeling positive behavior.
  • Manage and encourage families to maintain the family unit for the well-being of the children.
  • Provide support and guidance to parents in need through effective communication, budgeting skills, and coping strategies.

How the Program Works:

A Parent Mentor provides support and guidance to parents, helping them develop essential skills and create a positive home environment. Mentors offer practical assistance, such as in-home visits and budgeting help, to ensure families receive the support they need.

Key Components:

Support and Guidance: Mentors assist parents with everyday challenges, providing advice and encouragement to help them manage their households effectively.

Practical Assistance: Mentors visit families in their homes, offering hands-on help with budgeting, parenting techniques, and accessing community resources.

Positive Parenting Techniques: Mentors teach and model positive parenting practices to help parents develop strong, healthy relationships with their children.

What They Will Do:

  • Provide understanding and honest feedback.
  • Teach essential parenting skills.
  • Respect and value the information shared by families.
  • Regularly visit the family home to offer ongoing support.
  • Connect families with available community resources.
  • Provide encouragement and a listening ear.
